Project Management

The same impulse to help people clearly communicate what they're doing in their written materials leads me to work with them to focus, plan, and organize so they can do their best work. Through leadership roles in projects of all sizes, I've developed skills in long-term planning, budgeting, fundraising, volunteer coordination, and board development. Highlights include:

- Facilitation of the original executive-level task force examining the entire scope of services for children and family services that lead to the creation of the King County Children and Family Commission.

- Developer of two family resource centers. As planning coordinator for start up of the Family Center of South Snohomish County, I conducted the public process leading the center's establishment. As an early Executive Director of the Redmond-based Together Center, I took the center from start-up to full operations, even raising $500,000 and building a dental clinic.

- As the first staff planner for the Eastside Community Network, I guided a diverse group of citizens in developing their original vision and strategic plan for supporting the health and safety of youth and families in east King County.

- In multiple terms as Board Chair for Clarion West, I worked with the board and staff to scale-up this internationally-known professional writers workshop from a small, volunteer-run organization to a fully functioning non-profit with a secure budget, including garnering $50,000 in matching funds from Amazon's first pubic grants.

My work in project management gives me a unique set of skills. I can see -- and if necessary, step in to manage -- the entire scope of a project while also supporting and helping to build a team to work together to do its best work.
